Reflexology

Reflexology is a natural complementary therapy that is based on the idea that there are specific reflex points on the feet, hands, face, and ears that correspond to different parts of the body. By stimulating or soothing these reflex points, it is believed that many health issues can be improved in a natural and safe way.

Reflexology works with the body to restore its own natural balance and can be beneficial for anyone, not just those who are ill. It provides an opportunity to relax, unwind, de-stress, and take time for oneself.

Regular reflexology treatments can help to relieve tension, improve sleep, reduce stress and anxiety whilst naturally benefiting your overall health and wellbeing. It can help with specific symptoms, and regular treatments can help your body sustain optimum health.

The treatment involves something called thumb and finger walking, and with this movement, we are examining the areas for deposits and areas of tension which will highlight an imbalance.

What happens during a treatment?

Your first reflexology appointment will start with a health and wellbeing consultation, enabling me to tailor a bespoke treatment plan to support your needs. Therefore, this session is usually longer, lasting up to 85 minutes.

All future treatments will begin with a review of the treatment plan, which will allow me to monitor your progress, and make any adjustments if required.

I use a treatment couch, and you can choose to either lay flat, or if you prefer, you can sit more upright with support to your back. I also have plenty of warm blankets available for you.

I would recommend that you wear something comfortable that you feel relaxed in. The only thing you need to remove is your shoes and socks, and please don’t feel embarrassed by your feet or nails. Just remember - I can’t wait to get my hands on them!

Your treatment will begin with a hot towel cleanse of your feet, and I will then apply Neal’s Yard Comfrey & Mallow Foot Balm. If you do have any allergies or prefer to bring your own balm, that is not a problem. My touch is fairly firm, so please don’t be put off if you think you have ticklish feet!

Some people like to chat during their treatments, whilst others will take the opportunity to close their eyes and relax. I will leave that up to you to decide what you prefer to do.

At the end of each session, we will talk about how you feel, and discuss any aftercare guidance as required. As individuals, we all react differently to any treatment, including natural therapies such as reflexology. Most people feel very relaxed and calm, but others can feel full of energy and leave ready to spring clean their homes!

So Lay back, relax, and enjoy some well-earned ‘me-time’!

Benefits

  • Reflexology can help to improve circulation.  By reducing stress and tension reflexology allows cardiovascular vessels to control the circulatory flow of blood naturally.
  • Reflexology helps to cleanse the body of toxins.  If the bodies mechanisms for cleansing itself become blocked, toxins and waste matter can build.  Deep relaxation causes all the systems of the body to function more efficiently including those that eliminate waste products.
  • Reflexology can help to re-energise and rejuvenate.  A relaxing reflexology session that works on the whole body, can leave you feeling rejuvenated after all of the systems have been stimulated.
  • Helps with stress and anxiety and their related symptoms.
  • Helps promote better sleep and relaxation.
  • Reflexology aims to help individuals achieve and maintain a state of homeostasis, which is a state of balance among our body systems needed for the body to function correctly. It can help improve our health and enhances our mood and overall well-being.

Contraindications

Reflexology is a non-invasive and generally safe complementary health therapy.

However, there are a few conditions where it would not be suitable: blood clotting issues such as an active DVT, severe cellulitis (a painful inflammation of the skin), phlebitis (inflammation of a vein), areas of infections, contagious or notifiable disease (e.g. shingles, measles). Each client and their condition need to be assessed individually. This is why the first session starts with a consultation.

A full medical history is required to assess your general health and create a tailor-made treatment plan. If you have any concerns or are unsure if you are able to have a reflexology treatment, please do get in touch.
